KTH Royal Institute of Technology
KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm is the largest, oldest and most international technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. The KTH School of Biotechnology comprises eight divisions that have extensive research activities, altogether involving approximately 300 employees, including our PhD students.
The Division of Glycoscience is directed by Professor Vincent Bulone. Research here is focused in various areas of Glycobiology, comprising fundamental research on plants and microorganisms, as well as biotechnological developments towards carbohydrate-based products. A major goal is to understand how extracellular polysaccharides in microorganisms and plants - especially trees - are formed, remodeled and hydrolyzed. This fundamental knowledge on cell wall polysaccharide metabolism and self-assembly is exploited to engineer novel biomaterials with high performance relevant to a wide range of industries.
