Published on front cover of ‘PLANT PHYSIOLOGY’

Plant biomass is a promising widely available resource for the production of bioethanol. This plant matter is often considered an agricultural waste product but has enormous energy potential. Efficient processing of the material into biofuel is at current limited by the presence of lignin. Downregulation studies of a specific gene, ATR 2, have demonstrated the ability to reduce lignin content by 6% and shift its structure. The genetically modified plant biomass became more amenable for processing into primary sugars that can be fermented to biofuels. VIB, partner in MultiBioPro, has recently made front cover with their publication on that. Have a peek here.
